Hi there, fifth wheel owners. Today on your 2017 Keystone Montana, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Hydrastar's 1600 PSI brake line and actuator kit. To help us complete this installation, we'll be connecting it to Code DX 00:00:15 13-inch disc brakes at the back.One of the things I did want to mention is that this kit also comes with a new breakaway switch, as well as a breakaway switch battery. Our customer already had one installed and you can see it's a nice new one he just had put on, so we're not going to be replacing that today since it's already new components. But you'll get one included with your kit so you can easily get these installed, it's just a couple of wires, so it's really easy. You can follow along with us though, because we'll be hooking up to the customer's battery, but the process is going to be basically the same.We'll begin our installation by getting our actuator mounted, because we need to know where we're going to have to route all of our lines and our wiring to. more

Now you will find some kits out there that don't have the breakaway switch battery with them. Hi there fifth wheel owners. Today on your 2019 Crossroads Redwood, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Hydrastar's 1600 PSI Hydraulic Brake Actuator. This kit comes with the actuator as well as all of the lines we'll need for our tandem axle trailer. As well as a breakaway battery and breakaway switch. We just got done converting over our trailer from its electric drum brakes to hydraulic disc brakes. We need a very high amount of pressure to operate our disc brakes on our trailer, which is why we want the 1600 PSI that's available in our actuator up there, to ensure that we can properly get enough pressure to operate our disc brake system. more

This is a hydraulic actuator that is going to synchronize your trailer's hydraulic drum brakes with the brakes on your tow vehicle so that your trailer can slow and stop itself. So you're not relying on your tow vehicle to slow and stop both which can obviously add some burden and wear to your tow vehicle's brakes. So this is going to help alleviate that so that your trailer is taking on some of that load for itself.The way that these surge brake systems work, if you're not familiar, so as your tow vehicle is pulling your trailer along, if it starts to slow down, the momentum from your trailer is going to continue to push it forward and then this arm is going to telescope in which will then apply the pressure to your hydraulic system and apply the brakes so that it will start slowing and breaking on its own.This does have a unique roller design that's going to help reduce any resistance during that telescoping action. So you're not going to have to worry about it binding up and not applying the brakes; it's going to be nice and smooth, it's going to create that straight line movement so that you make sure that your brakes are being applied. more

So in order to change from electric to surge brakes here on our fifth wheel trailer, we're going to need some mechanism to apply the pressure to both of our disk brake calipers. In order to do that, we're going to be using this actuator here. So this actuator is going to take input from the tow vehicle via the form of an electric signal. This automatically synchronizes the trailer brakes with the tow vehicle axle brakes, and when the trailer pushes against the tow vehicle, this actuator will telescope right down here together and applies the force to the master cylinder right back here and that supplies the hydraulic pressure to your brakes. So when you go in reverse, you don't want the brakes to be applied. So what you'll do is take this manual lockout, hook it right in there, and that'll keep it from going back to apply the brakes. more

Now for those of you who are not familiar with the way a brake actuator works, this will mount to the front of your trailer. You'll be able to Mount your coupler here that will sit onto the ball of your towed vehicle. And as your towed vehicle pulls forward, this arm here is going to expand, and then as your tow vehicle slows down, the momentum of your trailer is going to push this arm back in, which is going to activate the cylinder inside. more

I'm Ellen here at eTrailer.com, and today, we're taking a look at the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator.Now, chances are you're already familiar with what a brake actuator does, but just in case you're not, basically what this is going to do is act as our brake controller for our trailer. This works with drum brakes, and basically, it's going to activate those brakes by the slowing down motion of our trailer.So, as we're coming to a stop in our truck, our trailer is going to be pushing forward against the coupler or against our actuator, and that's going to push this in. It's going to activate our master cylinder, which then in turn, activates that hydraulic pressure to our brakes. The brakes engage, and they slow down our trailer. So, it all happens at once, but as that trailer moves forward, that's really what gives you that braking force.So, there's nothing that you have to do in your truck. more

Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, a deceleration occurs and the momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With the surge brake system, that actuator right here, it's triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happens, this actuator will contract back towards the end here and apply the force to the master cylinder right back here. This in turn supplies the hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. more

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan Brake Actuator with 3" Drop. This is going to be a primed actuator that's going to fit your hydraulic drum brakes. It's going to work with your 2 5/16" ball, and it does a weld on design with a 12,500 pound capacity. This is going to be a great way to help your trailer come to a nice even stop, since this is going to apply your brakes in portion to how fast you're slowing down with your towed vehicle.Basically, this is just going to work on a mechanical principle. As you slow down, your trailer is going to want to push forward, and so that's going to active the actuator inside here, and push out that hydraulic fluid to your hydraulic drum brakes, so as you slow down, and it compresses, it sends out that fluid, and it brings you to a stop.Inside here we'll have a unique roller design. Basically, that just help to reduce any resistance, so it doesn't have to fight just metal to metal as it's coming to that stop. more

Review of Demco Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - DM8101801- Video
Today we're taking a look at the Demco hydraulic break actuator. This is a surge type actuator, which basically means that as you come to a stop with your towing vehicle your trailer is going to push forward since it wants to continue that motion, that pushes against our actuator, which will activate its function to push out that hydraulic break fluid to our breaks and thereby slowing down our trailer. So, it's a mechanical break controller. It's going to help us to slow down our trailer so it's not pushing us forward.We'll have an easy latch coupler at the front to make it a lot easier to hook up to your trailer. Basically, whenever you're dropping the trailer down onto the ball this coupler is going to automatically come up and release, and then snap back in place. So, it makes that a little bit easier so you don't have to lift that up yourself, and have someone in the back. more

Today, we'll be taking a look at the Titan Brake Actuator. This is gonna act as a mechanical sort of brake controller for our trailer basically as we come to a stop in our towing vehicle. Our trailer's gonna wanna keep moving forward and that's gonna push against the actuator, which will activate it and then push hydraulic fluid to our brakes bringing our trailer to a stop. So, it's kind of a push pull system, makes for a mechanical brake controller. This works with our hydraulic drum brakes so we'll see at the back we'll have our connection point there for the hydraulic line. At the top, we'll have a cap for our reservoir. more

This is going to allow you to use your electric brakes in your truck to control the hydraulic disc brakes in your trailer. Let me give you a few benefits for switching from electric drum brakes to electric over hydraulic disc brakes. Your electric over hydraulic disc brakes are going to give you much greater stopping power in a shorter distance, where your drum brakes are going to tend to wear down over a little bit of time, and then you're going to have to rely on the truck's brakes to stop both the truck and the trailer. With the hydraulic brakes, you're getting 1600 psi in your brake lines. more

Today we're taking a look at the Swing Away Actuator with a manual lock-out. Now this is a hydraulic actuator, and it's designed to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle brakes. So when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum actually pushes your trailer towards the rear of your vehicle.With surge brake systems, your actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows, so the actuator, which is internally here, it telescopes, which then applies force to a master cylinder internally, which then supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.So it's a really nice design, it's easy to use. One of the unique features about this particular one is it features a swing-away design which allows you to save space, so it has a space-saving swing-away design. So right here we have a pivot point, for the actuator. This whole portion will actually pivot back, creating a shorter tunneling for easier storage. more

HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit Installation - 2018 Grand Design- Video
Today on our 2018 Grand Design Reflection One fifty fifth wheel, you're gonna be taking a look, and I'm gonna show you how I installed the Hydrastar electric over hydraulic actuator kit for disc brakes, part number HBA16-252-82.This is what our actuator looks like when it's installed. You can see here I have it mounted in the front storage compartment of our trailer. So you want to make sure wherever you mount it, you leave your filler cap accessible so you can maintain your fluid level for your brakes. This actuator is gonna be powered through your seven pole plug on the back of your truck, it's gonna give you 1600 PSI, and it's gonna convert your electric signal over to hydraulic pressure to give you maximum braking power on your trailer. Once you've monitored your actuator, then the next thing you want to do is you want to mount your breakaway switch battery and charger, which is this black box here.A couple questions that may be asked is why you need a separate battery for your breakaway switch. While your trailer is being towed, your breakaway switch needs to have constant power. more

Speaker 1: Today, we're gonna be taking a look at Tucson's Actual Link Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for disc brakes, part number 335ACE-1600. You can also get this as a kit with a direct link NE brake controller, using part number 335ACT-1600-DLNE.This is what our actuator is gonna look like when it's installed. You can really pick any location that you'd like to install it. We've got it installed on our camper here, inside the front compartment. It comes with mounting brackets so it can be mounted at the bottom and attach it sitting upright and also a side bracket so you can mount it to the side of something and it has to be positioned upright, with the cap at the top, no matter where you position it.This actuator is designed to work with hydraulic disc brakes systems. If you don't have those on your trailer, you can upgrade it using the components found here at etrailer.com. more
